Mermaid Treasures is inspired by the stunning texture and shapes of natural seashells. Seashells are an important part of coastal ecosystems: in addition to hermit crabs that use seashells as temporary shelter, they also provide materials for birds' nests, a home or attachment surface for algae, sea grass, sponges and a host of other microorganisms. Fish use them to hide from predators. The removal of large shells and shell fragments has the potential to alter the rate of shoreline erosion. We cast in sterling silver for long lasting wear and never use natural shell in order to minimize the unnecessary impact on the ocean.
Shells symbolize feminine strength, including birth and fertility. It is believed that shells bring the wearer good luck and fortune.
